As a big fan of the book Pride and Prejudice, I wanted to explore some of Jane Austen's other works. Though I'd still recommend Pride and Prejudice, I enjoyed Sense and Sensibility very much. The characters were engaging and believable. The storyline was redemptive and easy to follow, though I wish more had been said about the events directly leading up to the ending.
The central characters are the two sisters: Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. Elinor is calm and tends to analyze each situation in front of her and respond as is proper, often hiding her personal feelings. Her sister is the opposite, and expresses all her feelings, sometimes stepping outside would be considered proper. Circumstances teach the girls the benefits and shortcomings of both temperaments.
I like Jane Austen's hopefulness and happy endings as well as her sense of justice. It always seems that her central characters, whose hearts are good, draw worthy partners in the end. It's nice to read a story that ends so positively.
I did feel a little bit cheated at the end. I wanted to see more of how the final events managed to occur, rather than be told the summary of them. But it wasn't enough to kill the enjoyment I had in reading the story and knowing how it all did end. :)
