Good Old-Fashioned Discipline

NaNoWriMo Day 3

Soooooo... whew. It never ceases to amaze me how much more I can get done if I just make my fingers keep going, type out line after line, even if I'm not 100% pleased with the previous line or 100% sure what the next line after this one will be. The unexpected lightning strike of inspiration is wonderful, but how often do you really get struck by lightning?

Perhaps engaging in the discipline of daily writing is like walking in an open field with a lightning rod.

I think, for me, this particular story has existed in my head for so long that I've avoided putting it on paper because I knew I couldn't write it exactly as I see it in my head. But if I don't attempt to write it, no one else besides me will ever know about Jess and Celeste and the winding road they travel.

All right. Enough navel-gazing. Back to the grind!

Friday I'll post a review of Walking Man, the story of a missionary to Latin America.
