Review: The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros

I LOVE IT!!!! The House on Mango Street is the poignant tale of a young Spanish girl named Esperanza who moves with her family to their first house on Mango Street. The chapters, though short, are snapshots of Esperanza's family, friends, and neighbors as well as her own experiences with the sometimes brutality of life and growing up.

The descriptions are often poetic and always rich. The San Fransisco Chronicle describes Cisneros' writing as "spare yet luminous." I must agree. I devoured every word.
