On Writing: Rest

For Christmas my "cousin" gave me a "writer's block" (it's a block with different quotes and sayings on it from different writers, etc. One of the quotes is by Gertrude Stein:

"It takes a lot of time to be a genius, you have to sit around so much doing nothing, really doing nothing."

It makes me laugh, but as I leap into the wall that is the last three chapters of my manuscript... I'm totally seeing the truth of it. Because sometimes you have to sit still and do a whole lot of nothing, just kind of "cloud-watching" in your head-- trying to clear out the annoying buzz of thoughts that form your to-do list, and just let your mind wander over the puzzle of the remainder of the story.

So... against my own will... I am making some time to rest this week. Because I think it's the only way I'm going to unravel the mystery of how these last three chapters should go. And I better do that in the most efficient way possible before my beloved readers come after me!

Happy wr... er... resting!
