Go Ask Alice is a haunting story of a young girl's descent into drug addiction and her desperate attempt to break free again. It is literally her diary. First printed in 1971, it still remains one of the most popular and definitive works about teen drug addiction.
If you've never read this, I challenge you to do so. It's rough in places-- describes some ugly trips and some raw things. But it is a very real depiction of a life afflicted by drugs.
When I was in school, I had a friend who made some very poor choices. Ironically, I first heard about this book from him. (Even more ironically, I remember him trying to get me to drop acid with him...)
You should be able to find Go Ask Alice in the YA (Young Adult) section of your local library.
