On Writing: Using a Style Sheet

A style sheet is my new best friend! It's a simple idea-- divide a sheet of paper into sections and put a few letters of the alphabet in each section: A B C, D E F, G H I, etc. Then use the appropriate section to list words with odd spellings, the names of minor characters (especially ones that might be spelled more than one way), and unusual phrases that you use in more than one place. For example, in my first section, I listed the words "case worker," because I kept forgetting whether I spelled it as one word or as two.

Keep the style sheet handy as you write (I've used it more while I'm editing) to keep your spelling consistent. It's just one simple way to keep the details from getting lost in the unfolding of your fantastic story!
