If you're among the masses of Twilight fans, like me, you're probably still trying to pry your jaw off the keyboard from the shock you received on hearing this-- that someone distributed part of Stephenie Meyer's manuscript for the next book in the saga, Midnight Sun, without her knowledge or consent.
This is a HUGE violation. I'm shocked. Being that the manuscript was only given to people she trusted, I can't get past the disgust that someone would betray her like that. There are a few faithful readers that have followed me from first draft to present manuscript. I trust each of them. The thought that one of those faithful few would betray a trust of that caliber is horrible.
Stephenie addressed the whole ordeal from her site. She talks about how this has been so upsetting that she feels like she can't finish the manuscript. Do you get that? She's so right-- that writing is an emotional endeavor-- and to have a project violated like this would make it really hard to finish. I can only imagine the devastation she must have felt when she discovered all.
That said, I know that writing is also a discipline. While she has currently announced that the project is on hold indefinitely, I hope that once she's able to resolve her feelings over this, that she'll continue with the story. I know I never feel good leaving a story unfinished-- that goes for writing AND reading. :)
So I REALLY hope that after taking some recoup time, she feels up to the challenge of telling the rest of the tale...
Here's hoping!
